Introducing Einblik

Branded short links and privacy-first analytics

Why we built a link shortener

Short links are everywhere in a company's communication: campaign emails, social posts, QR codes on flyers and posters, links in presentations. Most teams use one of the big US shorteners, and three things keep getting in the way: the links carry someone else's domain, the analytics rely on tracking that needs a consent banner, and the price grows with the number of clicks.

We needed short links for our own projects and for our clients, and none of the options fitted a Swiss company that cares about its visitors' privacy. So we built Einblik, and it is now in production for teams of every size.

What Einblik does

Your own domain. Every link can live on your own short domain, verified with a single DNS record. Visitors see your brand, not ours: our own links run on vtn.li.

Analytics without cookies. Clicks over time, countries, referrers and unique visitors, counted server-side without cookies or cross-site tracking, so no consent banner is needed. Unique visitors are counted with an identifier that is salted, rotated every day and then discarded. Links and click data are hosted in Switzerland (Google Cloud, Zurich).

Clean campaign URLs. Einblik flags tracking clutter such as fbclid or gclid in a destination URL and removes it in one click, while the UTM parameters you rely on stay.

More than a redirect. Higher plans add smart routing by country, device or time of day, consent gates before a redirect (age, terms, email capture), one-time and capped links, and rotating passes for event check-in.

Flat pricing. A free plan that keeps redirecting forever, and paid plans that are never billed per click. Teams can start free at einblik.com.

How we built it

A short link has one job that cannot fail: answer fast. Einblik's redirect path is a small OpenResty service that reads the destination from Redis and answers immediately; the click is queued and processed asynchronously, so recording statistics never slows a visitor down.

Behind it, the link, statistics and administration services were rewritten from Java to Rust and run on Google Cloud Run in the Zurich region, with PostgreSQL for the statistics, Keycloak for sign-in and an API gateway in front. The dashboard is a Nuxt web application.

The same choices we make for clients: a hot path kept small and measurable, everything else asynchronous, managed services where they save work, and hosting in Switzerland when the data calls for it. If you need something similar built, see our DevOps, data analytics and web and mobile application work.
